Hurricane Earl August 30, 2010 (First pictures out)
August 30, 2010 – St. Kitts & Nevis (WINN): Two St. Kitts-Nevis coast guard vessels ran aground at Timothy Beach in Frigate Bay Monday morning due to hurricane conditions by Hurricane Earl. WINN FM's Andre Huie was present and spoke to onlooker and maritime enthusiast Peter of Basseterre-based computer firm Peter.Kn.
Both of St. Kitts Coast Guard Vessels Beached by Earl
They rode out the hurricane, but early Mon morning the generator failed and they lost rudder control. They came ashore mostly uncontrolled and only assisted by the smaller boat. They just barely missed the rock and rock cliffs....
And this from Professional Captain, Clayton Embly! Captain Embly commanded the Red Sails Charter Catamaran out of St Kitts for 2 1/2 years. He worked closely with the SKCG during those years.
"JOB WELL DONE !!!!!!! I am VERY proud of the SKN Coast Guard !!!!! A good mission with NO loss of life !!!!"
Wow! It sounds like the SKN coast guard did a great job keeping everyone safe. I will be moving to St. Kitts soon to attend the University of Medicine and Health Science so your information (and pictures) is really useful to help me prepare for island life and see all of the safety measure they have in place for during a hurricane. It makes me feel much more comfortable about moving there.
Thanks for the picture to Peter Chevozerov of Peter.KN
ReplyDeleteDamage from the boats colliding was reported.
